About Us
A global fashion lifestyle brand
A Legacy Born in 1945
Hélène Lazareff, a Russian-born, Paris-raised journalist, founded ELLE magazine on November 21st, 1945, in a France still recovering from the war. After several years in New York working in the media industry, she returned to Paris with a visionary idea: to create a magazine by a woman, for women—the first ever. With her unique and innovative editorial voice, Hélène Lazareff redefined women’s publishing and became a true pioneer.
ELLE quickly became a symbol of freedom, modernity, and empowerment. Hélène made ELLE a place where new talent was discovered and the future of fashion and culture was shaped.
Over time, ELLE evolved into one of the most influential brands in the world.
